This barrel provides exceptional resistance to both abrasive wear and corrosion. X-800 is a composite consisting of particles of tungsten carbide, one of the hardest materials known, uniformly dispersed in a matrix of corrosion-resistant nickel alloy.

Rockwell testing, involving a ball indentation device, is a poor guide to the wear resistance of composites such as X-800. The measured Rockwell value of X-800, 58 to 62 Rc, essentially indicates the hardness of the matrix alloy. Microhardness testing, by contrast, homes in on the tungsten carbide particles that provide X-800's exceptional resistance to abrasive wear. Such testing yields readings of 1200 Knoop, i.e., off the Rockwell C scale.

Grooved feed

For processing such materials as HMW-HDE film, Xaloy offers X-800 barrels with longitudinal grooves to your specifications. A choice of unitary or separate feedblock construction is available.
