The Maguire MPF Powder Feeder is a rugged industrial volumetric feeder designed to meter precise quantities of powder very accurately into the main flow of virgin material directly above the throat of the process machine. The MPF feeder is microprocessor controlled and meters free-flowing powder with absolute accuracy. A digital counter located on the face of the controller allows the user to select the exact degree of auger rotation and set a single dispense as low as a fraction of a gram.

Using digital input, the microprocessor detects and automatically compensates for changing cycle times, varying torque requirements, or fluctuations in plant voltage. This eliminates the need for monitoring and adjustment. As an option, the controller may be remotely positioned up to 20 ft. from the processing machine.

Fitted to the side of the adaptor frame is a wide stainless steel channel which serves as the main support for both the hopper/auger assembly, and the motor drive controller. The hopper/auger assembly is designed to rest in the channel with no securing bolts necessary. It is easily removed by sliding backwards several inches and lifting straight up. The hollow, stainless steel auger and Celcon® auger housing are attached to the bottom of the hopper so that during material change, all material contact surfaces are removed and easily carried to a separate area for thorough cleaning. Automatic auger tube shutoff prevents additive from spilling when the hopper/auger assembly is removed.

The powder hopper is stainless steel and is specially designed with straight sides and a rounded bottom. Inside the hopper is an agitator that sweeps the bottom of the hopper, just above the auger, once every 2 auger revolutions. This serves to break any bridges that may form as material is consumed. The agitator is driven by a "V" belt which is attached to the auger drive coupling.

Virgin material flows through a flow chamber which is composed of two 1/2" thick, clear acrylic windows and two stainless steel baffles. These baffles control and direct the flow of natural material. The powder additive is dropped into the flow from an air space and is evenly distributed over the steady and predictable flow of natural material. This assures uniform distribution and the windows provide a clear view of the combined flow.

Calibration is performed in one of two ways. The drive motor may be run in reverse and additive is transported backwards and discharged out of a sample port. Or, output can be checked by sliding the controller and hopper assembly back to the rear stop and catching the sample as it is dispensed from the front of the auger housing.
