Reynolds Polymer Technology's R-Cast® Acrylic Window At Resorts World Sentosa Named The World's Largest

The Guinness Book of World Records has named the S.E.A. Aquarium as the world’s largest indoor aquarium. The main viewing window – which is larger than a Boeing 737-300 jet – was recognized as the world’s largest acrylic panel.

Sentosa Island (PRWEB) - To experience underwater life without getting wet, you need to go to an aquarium with a big window – a really, really big window. Visitors at the newly-opened Southeast Asia (S.E.A.) Aquarium in Marine Life Park at Resorts World Sentosa have exactly that at their disposal – the world’s largest aquarium window at the world’s largest oceanarium – to immerse themselves in underwater life.

Reynolds Polymer Technology, Inc. (RPT) manufactured and installed the R-Cast® acrylic panel that earned Resorts World Sentosa the distinction of having the world’s largest. The panel provides immense views into the Open Ocean exhibit allowing visitors to observe sharks, manta rays, and hundreds of other aquatic animals.

The largest R-Cast® acrylic panel measures 118 feet wide, 27 feet tall, and nearly 28 inches thick. That’s 8.5 feet longer than a Boeing 737-300 jet and 24 times heavier; it’s also nearly 20 feet longer than a blue whale, the largest known animal to have ever existed.

The giant R-Cast® acrylic window in the exhibit is comprised of thirteen narrower acrylic panels that were chemically bonded together in stages. All told, it took more than a year to engineer and manufacture the panels in the factory and another several months on-site to assemble, bond, and install the panel into place.

In addition to the giant panel, RPT manufactured and installed nearly 80 other panels present in all 49 exhibits throughout the aquarium. This includes a 78 foot long tunnel that’s five inches thick and set at an angle through an exhibit, a 19 foot diameter domed roof that sits 13.5 feet beneath the water’s surface, and a 14 foot long U-shaped trough that allows visitors to view the exhibit from the sides and underneath.

In all, the aquarium houses more than 100,000 marine animals from more than 800 species. S.E.A. Aquarium is only one part of the Marine Life Park experience. Visitors can also cool off on water slides and water coasters, go snorkeling in a reef, or partake in several other water-based attractions.
