Nova Acquires Ground Breaking EPS Technology

Pittsburgh, PA — NOVA Chemicals Corporation today announced it has acquired the exclusive rights to a groundbreaking expandable polystyrene (EPS) manufacturing technology from Autonational BV. This technology, which will be marketed as IMage™ technology, is used to manufacture cups and containers that offer both outstanding graphics and superb hot and cold insulation.

"IMage technology delivers a revolutionary combination of insulation performance and superior graphic capabilities to enhance brand impact in the rapidly growing, global cup and container market," said Tony Torres, Vice President, Styrenics Business Development for NOVA Chemicals.

"Before IMage technology, there was no single cup or container that could offer both eye-catching, brand-building graphics as well as hot or cold insulation," said Torres. "This innovation makes it possible to mold and print stylish and functional EPS cups in a single step. And for consumers, the days of ‘double-cupping' hot beverages will soon be over."

The performance attributes delivered by IMage technology, including excellent rigidity and strength, make it ideal for end-use applications ranging from hot and cold beverage cups to containers for ice cream or soup. For brand owners, IMage technology provides the elegance, smooth texture and stunning graphics that present unique opportunities for growth and brand differentiation.

Through development partnerships, NOVA Chemicals plans to introduce IMage technology to growing North American markets during the fourth quarter of 2005. The company is also in the process of selecting a global network of commercial partners. Autonational will be the exclusive manufacturer of molding equipment utilizing NOVA Chemicals' IMage technology.
