NAK-HH is a precipitation, or age hardened mold steel with a through hardness of approximately 45/48 HRC. NAK-HH is ideal for use in plastic, composite and rubber molds where impact resistance is not critical. It is vacuum-arc re-melted steel with uniform grain structure, uniform hardness and excellent dimensional stability.
Machines up to 30% faster than P20 to a superior surface with negligible dimensional change. Positive rake cutters with concave, chip-breaking inserts work best. EDMThe soft recast layer is much thinner and is easier to remove than steels with a recast layer that is equivalent to their "as quenched" hardness. With NAK-HH, no post EDM stress relieving is ever needed.
Age hardening eliminates the stresses inherent in quenched and tempered steels. NAK-HH is dimensionally stable and predictable over many years of heating and cooling cycles.
VAR processing with uniform grain structure facilitates superior nickel, chrome, titanium, and other coatings. Unique chemistry responds extremely well to ion-nitriding.
Exceptionally uniform grain structure allows for superior texturing and photo etching.
Higher hardness ensures molds have a longer life than those made from P20, or P20 High Hard particularly in gate, runner, and parting line areas.
UNIQUE CHARACTERISTICS
- Vacuum-Arc Re-melt manufacturing process.
- 45 HRC hardness.
- Uniform hardness throughout, even in heavy sections.
- Uniform grain structure with no pinholes, inclusions or hard spots.
- Machines up to 30% faster than 30 HRC P20 mold steels.
- Never needs stress relieving, even after heavy machining.
