Conical Cam mold split sections open and close automatically as the mold cycles, but they use no cam pins, notorious wear-prone items that can gall, bend and break. The conical design of the cam split springs, and the mold opening do all the work. Stainless steel Conical Cam splits with EDM'd cavities rest, spring-loaded, in a Conical Cam retainer, providing a full 360¦ of cylindrical contact when clamped. Undercut removal is easy and precise. And adding lines are virtually undetectable. Any cam split wear on the cam retainer is all line contact. Only at the last moment does the entire bearing surface fully engage. Each mold cavity has it's own set of Conical Cam inserts. These inserts are designed for easy key wrench removal. For maintenance or problem solving, you can remove and replace the individual inserts while the mold is still in the press, so there is less downtime. All of the splits and retainers are made to gages, they are completely interchangeable. When it comes to quick design changes, finish machined blanks can be stocked and molding impressions can be EDM'd in as required. Peripheral cooling is provided at the Conical Cam retainer, which enhances thermal transfer to the cavity splits.
