Artist Sophia Collier Captures An Elusive Subject With Reynolds Polymer Technology's R-Cast® Gem Acrylic

The versatility of R-Cast® shines through in the newest Sculptured Beach pieces, which replicate water ripples in a stunning fashion that is truly Way Beyond Ordinary.

Grand Junction, CO (PRWEB) - The earth’s rippling waters have never been keen to hold a pose for anyone. However, by employing a unique blend of animation, custom millwork, and R-Cast® acrylic, artist Sophia Collier has created three-dimensional impressions of water that seem to suggest otherwise.

“Can I touch it?” Is one of the most frequently asked questions that Sophia receives from those who have seen her work firsthand at exhibits around the world. “It looks SO real.” This common reaction is brought on by the sight of a seemingly moving liquid that sits - somehow - quite motionless on display. Collier has spared no detail in refining her methodology to produce this surrealistic outcome. The color, tone, transparency, and texture of her work ensure that no one mistake one of her Sculptured Beach pieces for anything mundane.

“One day I was walking across a bridge and thought - I wish I could just reach down into the water and pick up a piece of that shining surface and keep it forever,” the artist explained in a statement for http://www.sophiacolliergallery.com. “I traveled to Detroit and found idled expert machinists to teach me precision milling. I learned animation with students from Pixar. I experimented with materials and developed a color palette in acrylic block. Rather than hire fabricators, I developed methods and equipment to make every piece myself in my own studio. Now, when I look at my finished work, I see peace. Powerful emotion and turbulence have found a resting place. The surface is a lens for pure light.”

The medium that Sophia has chosen for her work, R-Cast® Gem as manufactured by Reynolds Polymer Technology, Inc., utilizes a proprietary chemical process to make the world’s thickest custom-colored acrylic product. The unique properties of R-Cast® also allow for the largest monolithic sheeting in the industry. “Reynolds makes the only acrylic that can be completely custom-hued to my specifications,” stated Collier. “This element is crucial to the flow that you see in my pieces.”

“Because there is no distortion in the panels, just purely and simply translucent color, it’s a versatile product where design and aesthetics are paramount,” said Matt Houlihan, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for RPT. “Sophia’s artwork is proof of that and of how a simple sheet of acrylic can be so completely transformed into a stunning work of art.”
