Sierra Resins, Inc. Brings Two Bio-Concentrate Additives Into Production: bio-PET 14 And bio-Lene 14

Sierra Resins products now being used commercially for bottles, caps, fasteners, tubes, cosmetics packaging, food packaging, and other consumer container applications

Manfield, MA (PRWEB) - Sierra Resins has two new bio-concentrate additives as part of their Enviroble™ bioplastics Masterbatch portfolio – bio-PET 14 and bio-Lene 14.

The bio-PET 14 concentrate was formulated for stronger unbreakable type packaging with excellent clarity and vapor barrier protection. Alternatively, bio-Lene 14 is designed for applications like squeezable tubes and other consumer packaging with a range of applications in the cosmetics packaging market.

“PET is widely known as a strong, clear material when molded, with excellent chemical resistance, so there’s a wide range of applications besides beverage bottles,” said John Tersigni, CEO of Sierra Resins. “For example, we submerged our bio-PET 14 concentrate pellets and test plaques into automotive fluid over time, fluid that’s used to clean fuel injectors, intake valves, and combustion chambers, and it held up extremely well when we adsorption tested it.”

“We believed we needed to formulate two different concentrates; one [bio-PET 14] that lends itself to dimensional stability, high impact strength, and chemical resistance when added to a PET injection blow-molding process. On the other hand, bio-Lene 14 when added to a specific polypropylene carrier resin gives the final molded product a squeezable quality for items like lotion tubes, cosmetics packaging, and consumer container applications,” said Tersigni.

Bio-Lene 14 is also suitable as a bio-concentrate additive for applications with high temperature resistance or “hot fill” requirements.

Sierra Resins Inc. is a formulator and licensor of bioplastics technology.
