Trex Company Pitches In To Help Rebuild Community, Outdoor Attractions Of "The Big Easy"

Winchester, VA - Trex Company, Inc. , the alternative decking category leader, announced recently new social and environmental responsibility initiatives to help rebuild New Orleans with donations of time and decking products for community venues that mark the city's cultural, seaside and fishing heritage. To kick off the new program, over 160 Trex employees and building material distributor partners today, in association with Habitat for Humanity, embarked on a full work day to help complete the celebrated Musician's Village. Trex, known for high performance decking, railing and fencing products made with recycled materials, also announced its intent to contribute an initial $75,000 worth of decking products toward rebuilding efforts. This donation could potentially supply decking materials for more than 40 single-family homes, or for several public walkway and marina projects.

During the work day today, Trex Company employees and distributor partner volunteers from around the country teamed up to help build walls, shingle roofs, paint walls and lay foundations for homes within Musician's Village.

Musician's Village is an Upper Ninth Ward neighborhood conceived by Harry Connick, Jr., and Branford and Ellis Marsalis to house displaced New Orleans musicians and other Habitat partner families.

Additionally, Trex Company representatives have entered discussions to contribute decking products for future Habitat projects as well as for other significant community rebuilding efforts, which will be announced at a later date once details have been finalized.

Trex decking, railing and fencing is made primarily from recycled plastic grocery bags, reclaimed pallet wrap and waste wood. Last year, Trex Company used more than 250 million pounds of recycled and reclaimed plastic and equal amounts of waste wood to manufacture its products. "Our work in New Orleans is just one more example that, as more consumers recycle their plastic supermarket grocery bags, we will put them to good use," said Ferrari.

Trex decking is used for miles of seaside boardwalk, for the Presidential Trail at Mount Rushmore, for walkways throughout the Florida Everglades, and on more than a million backyard decks throughout North America.
