Jaguar Standardizes On Moldflow Products For Plastics Part Design Analysis

Orpington, UK — Moldflow Corporation, the leading provider of design analysis solutions for the plastics injection molding industry, announced that Jaguar Cars Limited, a subsidiary of the Ford Motor Company and one of the world's leading designers and manufacturers of premium sedans and sports cars, recently invested in Moldflow Plastics Insight® (MPI®) software products, which will allow Jaguar to optimize their plastics part designs and maintain the high levels of quality they are famous for. MPI is the world's most widely used plastics CAE software for the in-depth analysis of the injection molding process and it can be used to predict and solve potential manufacturing problems before they are encountered in a production environment.

Using plastics in automotive applications remains one of the best ways to reduce the overall weight of a vehicle and results in a more environmentally-friendly car that uses less fuel and emits lower amounts of greenhouse gases. Recognizing the continued growth of plastics in automotive applications, Jaguar invested in Moldflow analysis products to ensure that they continue to design optimized parts that meet critical quality requirements that are "right first time". Jaguar's ultimate goal is to require a Moldflow analysis on every injection molded part in their vehicles, regardless of whether a given part is designed in-house or designed and manufactured by one of their suppliers.

The analysis results from Moldflow's software solutions are a critical addition to a series of CAE software modules that Jaguar use throughout the whole life cycle of a plastic part. Using Moldflow, Jaguar have already experienced tremendous benefits and cost savings. Jaguar's biggest problem is scrap rate as it impinges on their lead times, costs and product quality. As a luxury car manufacturer, Jaguar has to ensure that their parts are right the first time and have implemented Moldflow software to achieve that goal.

Myles Peyton, Moldflow's UK Account Manager explains, "With more OEM's reliant on suppliers to deliver completed product, CAE analysis tools such as MPI are key to managing risk and ensuring that products are delivered on time, at the right cost and with the highest quality." He continued, "Innovative businesses recognize that a product optimization strategy is essential to survive in today's highly competitive markets, and industry leaders such as Jaguar are implementing Moldflow solutions as a critical part of that strategy."
