>SAS< Robotic Insert Mold End-of-Arm Tool - for Film Laminates saves labor costs, increase cycle times and improves the consistency of higher quality parts.
Automation of Film Laminates & In-mold Decorating

Until now, loading film laminates into the mold had been a manual process. New EOAT from >SAS< finally automates this process by developing a specially designed system that does NOT require any physical mold changes. >SAS< EOATs can be used in several different types of automation processes:

  • Film EOATs for Pickers: EOAT for a side entry pick-and-place unit that shuttles the inserts in from the side of the process. While the range is limited, it is an economical approach versus using a robot.
  • Film EOATs for Robots: EOAT custom designed for your robot. EOATs carry an electrostatic charger to create an electric field on the film insert and docking pins ensure the precision necessary for inserting film into the mold.
Film Laminates
Film laminates are commonly replacing paper or plastic labels because the print does not peel off the part. The advantage of molding films into plastic parts is that the micro-porous backing sheet allows the plastic to flow into the pores creating a permanent bond, even with dissimilar plastics between the graphic film and part molded. A permanent bond is a much better situation as labels that peel present a dangerous choking or safety liability situation when used on toys. A permanent bond also ensures that safety & operating instructions remain on the product.
