Garden Grove, CA - Saint-Gobain Performance Plastic L+S GmbH will be exhibiting its extended Meldin product portfolio at this year’s CTI Symposium in Berlin Germany at Booth # C15 & D14. Their product line encompasses one of the most complete ranges of polyimide and high-performance plastics material in today’s market. The 13th CTI Symposium, scheduled from December 8 to 11 at the Estrel Hotel, brings together about 100 experts in drives, transmissions and components along with an estimated 1100 participants from around the world to exchange the latest information on innovations and developments for automotive transmissions and drive technology.

The symposium’s objectives are:

  • Focusing on important progresses and news on transmissions and drives, components and tools, market specific requirements and give an international outlook
  • Discussing manifold new concepts of transmissions and alternative drives
  • Conducting specific sessions involving launch and shift elements, efficiency optimization, lubrication, energy storage technology, drive cycles, commercial vehicles

Saint-Gobain Seals acquired L+S Kunststofftechnologie GmbH in December 2013 to further strengthen its position in high-performance and co-developed solutions internationally. L+S Kunststofftechnologie GmbH is known for its cutting-edge expertise in design, tooling, testing and the processing of high-temperature polymers as well as focusing on developing specific grades of high performance materials since 1985. The acquisition resulted in Saint-Gobain Performance Plastic L+S GmbH and a more expansive Meldin offering, whose materials are available in compression or injection molded, machined components and basic shapes in order to provide the most added value in customization and design flexibility. These materials retain their critical properties over a temperature range from cryogenic through +600°F (+315°C) for continuous operation and may be used intermittently up to +900°F (+482°C).

With in-house compounding, applied knowledge and equipment, Saint-Gobain Performance Plastic L+S GmbH has been able to enhance the properties of the polymer materials specifically for applications in transmissions and drives. Enhanced properties include optimized wear performance, thermal behavior and sliding friction. Their material expertise includes knowledge on design, test and manufacturing of seal rings, axial plain bearings and radial plain bearings for transmissions and drives. These engineered components are used in areas of compact installation, low mass and easy assembly, allowing high performance to be combined with economic efficiency. They are also using fully automated test benches to continually improve the development of materials and designs.
