N.E.W. Plastics Receives Rigorous SQF Level 2 Certification For Rigid Plastic Containers

SQF Level 2 certification gives N.E.W. Plastics advantage to fulfilling Food Safety Modernization Act requirements in custom food, nutraceutical, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical packaging

Luxemburg, WI (PRWEB) - N.E.W. Plastics Corp., a rigid plastics manufacturer headquartered in Luxemburg, Wis., is now Level 2 certified to produce rigid plastic containers receiving the highest rating of “Excellent” from the Safe Quality Food (SQF) Institute. The 200-employee national company is one of the few rigid plastic manufacturers in the Midwest with the certification.

The certification gives N.E.W. Plastics a robust, strong advantage to fulfilling Food Safety Modernization Act requirements of the Food and Drug Administration and the ability to produce custom food-quality plastic containers applicable for food, nutraceutical, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical companies. N.E.W. Plastics is able to deliver high quality, custom blow mold design, and delivery with a quick turnaround and excellent customer service to Midwest manufacturers.

“Our SQF certification will give our customers confidence that they are providing a safe and high quality product to consumers,” said Mike Rekitzke, president and CEO. “The certification is designed to protect consumers, brands, suppliers, manufacturers and retailers from food safety incidents and recalls. Additionally, manufacturers will find we are very agile and flexible in meeting their diverse needs.”

Recent concerns about food safety and tracking contamination prompted the company to make a significant investment in the 18-month certification process. The Level 2 SQF certification helps to prevent, rather than react, to problems that can cause foodborne illness. The process requires environmental monitoring, allergen management, sanitation control, traceability and corrective actions. The company will be subject to inspections, and is responsible for tracking incoming materials and providing lot number bookends.

About The Safe Quality Food Institute (SQFI)
The Safe Quality Food (SQF) program is recognized by retailers and foodservice providers around the world as a rigorous and credible food safety management system. It is the only certification system recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) that offers certificates for primary production, food manufacturing, distribution, and agent/broker management. This enables suppliers to assure their customers that food has been produced, processed, prepared and handled according to the highest possible standards at all levels of the supply chain. Additionally as a division of the Food Marketing Institute (FMI), the SQF program incorporates continual retailer feedback about consumer concerns. This information is passed on to SQF certified suppliers, keeping them a step ahead of their competitors.

N.E.W. Plastics and RENEW Plastics are leading innovators in plastic recycling technology for more than four decades. With annual sales of $50 million, the company manufactures containers, plastic lumber, and components made from other prime and recycled material. Located in Luxemburg, Wis., the company employs about 200 people. For more information, visit http://www.newplasticscorp.com.
