Greene, Tweed announces that a major oilfield services provider has entered Arlon® 3000 XT, its newest polymer, into their global specification for use in HPHT (high-pressure, high-temperature) and other Oilfield applications.

Houston, TX (PRWEB) - Greene, Tweed announces that a major oilfield services provider has entered Arlon® 3000 XT, its newest polymer, into their global specification for use in HPHT (high-pressure, high-temperature) and other Oilfield applications. In the future, this means engineers working at the services provider will be able to incorporate Arlon 3000 XT in their designs. Developed specifically to withstand harsh environments, Arlon 3000 XT provides enhanced performance and greater component reliability over existing materials.

As the oilfield industry pursues more challenging reserves, temperature and pressure combine to place increased demand on the technology used to develop and produce in these environments. Called “HPHT”, temperatures can reach up to 600°F (316°C) with pressures as high as 45,000 psi. At these extremes, extrusion of polymer components is a leading cause of failure. Understanding this limitation, Greene, Tweed developed a new material to combat them – Arlon 3000 XT.

An advanced engineering thermoplastic, Arlon 3000 XT enhances creep and extrusion resistance over existing compounds. In Dynamic Mechanical Analysis, it has a glass transition temperature 35°F (20°C) higher than PEEK and exhibits superior mechanical property retention from 350°F (177°C) to 600°F (316°C). In extrusion testing at 35,000 psi and 550°F (288°C), it outperforms both virgin and filled PAEK polymers, including 30% carbon-filled grades. In addition, Arlon 3000 XT is compatible with all common oilfield fluids. The result is greater reliability of polymer components, and expanded capabilities in HPHT applications.

Greene, Tweed has worked with multiple industry partners to test and validate this new material, and the global specification by a major oilfield services provider is expected to be the first of many. Production has begun on a variety of components, including back-up rings, vee rings and electrical connectors. In addition, Greene, Tweed continues to explore other uses for the material.
